Just because they are young does not mean that children do not have experiences that impact their mental Health. As a matter a fact, research discusses the prevalence of child and youth depression in Trinidad and Tobago. Staff at Cope have years of experience working with this vulnerable population. Assisting them from a trauma-informed perspective, catering to their unique needs.
Coming in the fall of 2020. COPE will be starting the Youth Mental Health (YMH) after school program. This program will focus on topics that are relevant to young persons and Mental Health. The sessions will be held once a week, in a community setting with engaging conversations and fun activities. Children and youth will learn about Mental Health and substance use, and the importance of practicing coping strategies that increase positive Mental Health. Stay tuned to learn about you can register your pre-teen/teen for our YMH program.
Sometimes there are so many risk factors that children unfortunately find themselves involved with the justice system. Here at Cope we have the skills and training to address criminogenic factors, all while assisting with reducing recidivism.
Whether a Child in Need of Supervision (CHINS) or a young offender Cope hopes to work directly with the judiciary to provide both individual and group services for the Children's Court.
